About

The “Museum of Fantasy” opened in 2001 in a ship-like building by Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner on the shore at Bernried. It is named after Lothar-Günther Buchheim (1918–2007), German painter, author and wartime journalist, and shows his collection of German Expressionism — the painters of the Brücke — along with folk art and ethnographic objects. The non-profit Buchheim Foundation, founded at the end of 1995, runs the museum.
